a mother's influence

One of the sweetest days of the year is Mother’s Day, yet it is also a day that comes with so many emotions  Many have lost their mother or may have lost a child.  It is this day that reminds us that there are people who have poured in to our lives that have made a difference in our lives. There are many of those in my life.  From my mom, to my wife, to so many other ladies through the year that have made me a better person.  Scripture is clear that godliness and Christ-likeness are vitally important.  Think about it. Proverbs 31:28-29  NLT   Her children stand and bless her.  Her husband praises her: 29 “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!” It is in Proverbs 31 where we find so much about the women who have made us stronger and strengthened our faith in God.  Hey are some things that stick out in this chapter: A godly person must be a person that can be trusted (see verse 11).  A...

happy birthday mom

Mom.  Today would be my mom’s 81st birthday.  Not quite sure what birthdays are like in heaven, yet I know that heaven is one incredible place.  I cannot wait to see what it is like. My dad passed away in July of this year, and my mom passed away seven years ago this month.  Honestly, these past few months have been difficult as it seems that a chapter in my life has closed, and they are missed a great deal by me, my brothers and others.  We have been blessed to have great parents. I would like to spend this day sharing a little about my mom.  It was my mom who first formed my faith and shared with me about Jesus. 2 Timothy 1:5   NASB For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well. I am reminded by the lessons my mom taught me and by her kindness that the freedom God gives is always wrapped the grace and love of God.  I want others to know...

happy Mother's Day

I continue to be serving in Cuba with the FCA team.  The next three days I will be leading a retreat with several of the key leaders there.  Please pray for them and their families.  Pray they are encouraged and strengthened as their work continues. Yesterday was Mother’s Day, and I sure missed being with my Julie.  But here is some good news for this special day … I am blessed with some very special ladies in my life… my mom, my wife, my mother in law, my daughters, my new granddaughter and many more.   I begin with my mom.  My mom was amazing and more.  There is no one else like mom.  She accepted me, held me and kept me going when others weren’t around.  I miss my her as it has been over 6 years since she moved to heaven.  And no one could take her place. This Mother’s Day is our daughter Ruth’s first as a mom.  Oh I tell you baby Harper is amazing and beautiful ad so sweet.  I cannot wait to see her, but I ...

people I am thinking of

Today I continue on a trip to Cuba serving with the FCA sports ministry team there.  Please pray for each member of the team as well as the planning being done for future mission projects and ministry to athletes and coaches. I take time for personal thoughts today.  I want to give a huge birthday shoutout to a couple of my favorite people! First, my dad’s birthday was yesterday.  He turned 82 years old and remains one of my most trusted advisors as well as one of the wisest men I know.  He has taught me so much through the years, and I will never have the insight or skills that he has has.  My brothers and I are big time blessed to have Richard Harrison as our father.  Happy birthday, dad! Second, today is daughter Rebecca’s 25th birthday.  This young lady continues to amaze us with her abilities and gifts.  She and her husband Colman life in Hawaii where he serves in the Army.  She is a kind and quiet person who enjoys life.  I ...
