His power in us

The most powerful thing in the world is not always what it seems. Like a nuclear bomb… that is not the most powerful thing in the world. Like a bear or other wild animal that is upset… that is not the most powerful thing in the world. Like a horrible storm with strong winds and rain… that is not the most powerful thing in the world. Like a mother whose children have been harmed… that is not the most powerful thing in the world. This might not be popular.  You might not even agree.  But I do believe that the most powerful thing in the world is God and His people who are equipped with His truth. Let that sink in and let God be who He is in your life.  Faithful and strong.  True and truth.  Wisdom above all others.  Let His words hold your heart, help your hands and guard you in every way possible.   Here is just a little of that truth for all of us… Proverbs 4:10-13  NLT   My child, listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long,...

power trip

Power trip . Maybe I have your attention with the time of this e-devotion, but I am not talking about the power trip that you might be thinking about.  That would be when a person has lots of authority and throws it around. What I am sharing today is a trip.  A trip through a few books of the Bible with some powerful verses that speak to my life.  There you go on a different but cool power trip.  It is a lot of verses.  Just read.  See what sticks out to you.  Here we go. Genesis 15:5  NLT   Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!” Exodus 3:2-5  NLT   There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up. 3 “This is amazing,” Moses said to himself. “Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go see it....

power from God

One of the most powerful people I know is the person who knows who they are because of what God has done in their life.   Power often comes from the person who has the position of authority.  Power can come for the person who has the most treasure or money.  Power can be from the person who has the greatest influence.   Yet the greatest and longest lasting power if truly from the person whose life has been changed by God, and this person is convinced the goodness of God as well as the promises that God gave.   Check this passage out and notice how God connects us to real power. Romans 8:15-18  NASB   For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons and daughters by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffe...

a mother's influence

One of the sweetest days of the year is Mother’s Day, yet it is also a day that comes with so many emotions  Many have lost their mother or may have lost a child.  It is this day that reminds us that there are people who have poured in to our lives that have made a difference in our lives. There are many of those in my life.  From my mom, to my wife, to so many other ladies through the year that have made me a better person.  Scripture is clear that godliness and Christ-likeness are vitally important.  Think about it. Proverbs 31:28-29  NLT   Her children stand and bless her.  Her husband praises her: 29 “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!” It is in Proverbs 31 where we find so much about the women who have made us stronger and strengthened our faith in God.  Hey are some things that stick out in this chapter: A godly person must be a person that can be trusted (see verse 11).  A...

different strength

Proverbs 24:5-6  NLT The wise are mightier than the strong, and those with knowledge grow stronger and stronger.  So don’t go to war without wise guidance; victory depends on having many advisers.   It really is that simple. It is not always the strongest people who win the game.  Most often it is the wisest people who are strong in more ways than the physical.   When God gets a hold of our hearts and minds, there is the imparting of wisdom in our lives.  I talked about the book of Proverbs offering a virtual buffet of truth laced with wisdom, and it all comes from God.   Don’t head in to the battle, or for that matter in to any part life at all, without getting advise and loading up on the pure wisdom of God.  He will guide you to new heights and to fresh victories.  With this endless wisdom and Spirit drawn strength we will be able to go places we have never gone before.   What is the battle or...

the lie of drifting

Yesterday we continued our series DRIFT at The Community Fellowship, and it continues to amaze me in what God does. DRIFT can happen slow or fast, but it happens often.  Drift is defined as a driving movement or force, as in winds or currents, water or air or even by circumstances wandering aimlessly.  Has drift happened to us?  Or is drifting happening now?  There are times when we come to know Him and love Him so, so much.  We promise God if He will save us, give to us or meet our need that we will not forget Him.  Yet we forget.  Drifting happens. James 1:23-25  NLT   For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. We see Him.  We hear Him.  W...

peace and what?

Yesterday we talked about peace, and I take us on a similar trip today.   Yesterday was about living with peace.  Today is about what peace might add.  That is add to our lives or to wherever peace shows up.  It is amazing to look at peace from the eyes of a person who has God in their hearts and God is guiding their steps. Watch what God adds when peace is present. Psalm 34:14  NASB Turn from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it. One thing that peace does often is make us continue to seek peace.  Where God gives us peace, He will multiply it on and on. Romans 14:19  NASB So then we pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another. As we pursue peace we will pursue the things that make peace possible.  All the while we realize that peace builds up people and builds our relationships.  Peace makes us stronger. Psalm 119:165  NASB Those who love Your Law have great peace, And nothing causes them to stu...
