  What were you aiming for? A few months ago I was invited to a special event, fundraiser for a great nonprofit in Charlotte, that was a clay shoot.  You know.  Shotguns.  Clay targets hurled in various directions that you have to shoot. Needless to say, I am not a very good shot.  I got some, but most of them I missed and missed by a long way. In a conversation this week with one of our coaches he quoted this old saying, “If you aim at nothing, you hit it every time.”  What a huge reminder. Life is intended to be lived with purpose and with goals.  Much like that shotgun and the targets you have to aim right, understand the direction of your target and work toward hitting it. So many of the things in our lives involve the same thing.  Aiming at something, setting goals, making decisions and trying to hit where you aim.  Thus, I ask us a question this morning, “what are you aiming for?”  That question ought to leave us with a few more qu...

Proverbs 16:9  NLT We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps. Goal setting is an incredible thing.  I remember a statement I heard many years ago that rings in my head and heart when I start to set a plan in place.  “If you aim for nothing, you will hit it every time.” To set a goal is a good thing.  In fact when we know where we are headed somethings will change and we will know what is ahead of us. I believe God is in the plans.  The plan for my trip for Cuba came together very fast.  There were several weeks that I wasn’t sure that this trip was to happen.  I had prayed and sought God, but there wasn’t direction for some time. Then I was in a meeting with several people who are committed to the sports ministry in Cuba.  It was during that meeting that God spoke to my heart.  There were several things that came across my mind as we talked, and it seemed that God not only told me that I should go but the things that needed to ...

  This will be the only e-devotion for this week and the last week of 2021.  I am writing with the intent on looking back and learning from this year as well as looking forward with joy and determination to a new year full of possibilities. Three words come to mind in this reflection and time of planning.  I pray they will give you some what of a guide. REMEMBER. REPENT. REDEEM. Remember what is in the past, but leave things in the past.  They are to be points of learning and event some what of a trampoline to help you move to the next place. I am excited about the future, yet it really is the things of the past year, and further back, that have set the stage for what is ahead.  God called me to Himself first.  I long for a deeper relationship with Him.  God gave me a passion to serve Him and others.  Throughout my life there have been spiritual markers, as Henry Blackaby called them, that line my life and even set me up for more.  I long for...
