God is my rock

Proverbs 3:25-26  NLT   You need not be afraid of sudden disaster or the destruction that comes upon the wicked, 26 for the Lord is your security.  He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap. Sitting my desk 24 years ago I got a phone call.  On the other end of the phone was a friend, church member and father whose son was missing due to some kind of accident at the Pentagon where his son worked. Over the next several hours I watched the news, and there wasn’t one accident.  There were four accidents that are now known as 9/11.  The terror of that day really was the fact that things happened in our country that rarely are seen or heard of.  So many lives were lost. That night there was a gathering at our church where lots of people joined to pray.  Our country has not been the same since, and we continue to pray for those impacted by the horrific events of September 11, 2021. Turn to the news of this week where a man was murder...

remembering 9/11

The verse that sticks out as we remember 9/11 is this… Proverbs 3:24-26  NASB When you lie down, you will not be afraid; When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. 25  Do not be afraid of sudden danger, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; 26  For the Lord will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught. I remember the day after, September 12, 2001, as we gathered at the church I pastored and prayed for our nation.  That was happening all over the world.  What unity we saw.  What strength we gained. We need the same.  Unity and strength.  May God do that and so much more. Since that time 20 years ago we said we will “Never Forget”, and we haven’t.  But we need to be reminded.  This year’s reflection is the same with video and pictures, testimonies and remembrance, and each pointed us to the fact that we are still recovering, and not very well. Pray.  Pray for Afghanistan.  Pray for our military and...

remember

Psalm 77:11  NLT But then I recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. It is a great thing to remember.  Tuesday, September 11, 2001 is one of those days that we say we will never forget.  The towers in New York City collapsed after being hit by airplanes killing hundreds of people, and there were the crashes at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania too.  We will remember. There are lots of other days that we will remember.  Depending on our age there are dates that stick out to us.  I hear people speak of the day President Kennedy was shot, the day Pearl Harbour was attacked and others.  I remember the day Elvis Presley died, the shooting of President Reagan, when the space shuttle Challenger exploded in 1986 and others. Each of those holds a special place in our hearts.  But there are also the things that God has done that I remember.  It might have been something God did or something that God used in m...

we will never forget 9/11

Where were you on Tuesday, September 11, 2001?  I remember where I was like it was yesterday.  Not all the events of the day stand out, but as soon as I heard what was going on I went home to watch the events of the day unfolding on TV.    I saw this as an attack on our nation and on me.  Many lives were lost that days, and I remember and challenge you with a very common phrase… “we will never forget”.  We won’t forget that fact that America is a gift from God.  We won’t forget those who those who wanted to hurt our country.  We won’t forget those who lost their lives that day.  We will not forget the families whose lives were forever changed on that day.   What do you do when your world is turned upside down?  You may have been through a devastating time as such.  Many have not.   Proverbs 3:25   NASB Do not be afraid of sudden fear Nor of the onslaught of the wicked when it comes;    1 Thessal...
