Gettin' Answers :: Friday E-Devotion

What really gets your motor going? I am not talking about sin or the wrong stuff. I am talking about the right stuff that gets us moving in the right direction.

Some time ago I began reading the blogs of some people who are being very successful in planting new churches. One of the things I have noticed time and time again is how God answers prayers. I have known this truth. I have experienced this truth. But sometimes I forget to acknowledge the answers or the power of God.

There is so much to do and some big stuff that has to be accomplished around this new work(pray with me for some of those things). As I was doing that last night, I stumbled across a church planter’s website and several of his blogs mentioned a specific request. What I then noticed is that a couple days later or even once the next hour this guy listed the answer to his request. Folks, that is our God.

Let’s acknowledge Him. Let’s acknowledge gettin’ answers from Him.

Job got answers in the middle of deep pain and big problems:

“Can they take delight in the Almighty? Can they call to God at any time? I will teach you about God's power. I will not conceal anything that concerns the Almighty. But I don't need to, for you yourselves have seen all this; yet you are saying all these useless things to me.” Job 27:10-12 (NLT)

David said he got answers:

“On the very day I call to you for help, my enemies will retreat. This I know: God is on my side.” Psalms 56:9 (NLT)

God promises that we will find ourselves getting’ answers:

“Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:12-13 (NASB)

“Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3 (NASB)

“…The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.” James 5:16 (NLT)

What I see, what I know, what I need is to acknowledge the answers God gives and keep asking.

One last thought: I was listening to a testimony of a missionary Wednesday night about answered prayer. He said that he and his wife asked God a big question and for a great direction one night. The next day he received a letter from half way around the world where God answered their prayers before they asked.

Trust God and you will be gettin’ answers!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you

why is it Good Friday?

  Holy Week is the time we focus on God and His gift of salvation.  We come to Friday.  The day we remember the cross, Jesus’ death and all God has done for you and me   Why do they call this day “Good Friday” because it doesn’t seems good?   Jesus was treated as a criminal.  He was beaten so much that He could not recognize Him.  His pain would have been too much for you or me to endure.  That is especially from Scripture I’ve read or as in the movie the  Passion of the Christ .   Yet it is a good day.  It is Good Friday because God had our good in His heart.  What Jesus did that day changed our forever direction. Here are some thoughts that come to me:   He is Redemption and Redeemer   He too our Pain and Punishment   He is our Righteousness and Reality   He is the Savior and Life   All of those happened from the cross.  It was meant for the worst lawbreakers.  It was not meant for a Savior who never broke a law.  It was lifted high so that onlookers could see the price Jesus.   Look
