the real CIA // Firday E-Devotion

1 Corinthians 2:10 (nlt) --- But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God's deep secrets.

I have really gotten excited lately over a series of movies that kind of surprised me. The Hunt for Red October has long been a favorite and any of the Harrison Ford thriller stuff, but last night I sat down and began watching another movie in one of those series called The Sum of All Fears (in the Tom Clancy series of Jack Ryan novels). Not the best of movies, but a good story line and actors.

What do I like about them? Is it the suspense? No. Is it the action? No. I think it is the story of government and enemies trying to out think and out reason each other.

You see, I beleive that no one can out think God. He is kind of like the CIA or the FBI where people miss what is happening and are often not expecting outcomes.

Have you seen these bumper stickers that read: CIA - Christians In Action? Pretty cool.

You see, God has some things about Himself and His character that people don't get. Walk with me.

He knows things:

Luke 12:7 (nlt) --- And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

Romans 8:27 (nasb) --- and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Acts 15:8 (nlt) --- God knows people's hearts, and he confirmed that he accepts Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us.

God searches:

Acts 15:8 (nlt) --- God knows people's hearts, and he confirmed that he accepts Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us.

Hebrews 4:13 (nlt) --- Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.

What's my point? We cannot hide anything from God, and it makes our relationship with Him better when we admit that fact and stop hiding. He is seeking us ... seeking to save, to love, to help and to spend time with us. He is not out to hurt or harm us. He is out to love us. Think about it.

The CIA wants to put a stop to enemies hurting this country. The real CIA wants to put a stop to our enemy, Satan, wrecking our lives now and in the future.

Praise God for His awesome character and ability. And best yet, praise God for His love for us.

John 10:10 (nlt) --- The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

Francis Chan's "Forgotten God" (brand new book)

One of the most powerful preachers, writers and leaders of our time, in my opinion, is Francis Chan.  His first book, Crazy Love , revolutionized my thoughts about God's love as well as my interacting with God.  Now it is time for a brand new book from Chan being released tomorrow, September 1st.  The book is Forgotten God .   This is a phenomenal book about the power that Christians and the church can and must tap into.  All of it is within the Holy Spirit.  Francis talks about the power that was seen in the book of Acts when the Holy Spirit began to move among people.  It is true that many have avoided or maybe forgotten what the Holy Spirit is all about.   And like the Savior who poured out His life and blood so we have reason to rejoice, we were made to lay down our lives and give until it hurts.  We are most alive when we are loving and actively giving of ourselves because we were made to do these things.  It is when we live like this that the Spirit of God moves and ac...

inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share.  For me C.S. Lewis is one of those.  He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class.  It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before.  He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 and died in 1963, 7 years before I was born.  It wasn’t until his 30’s that under the influence of his friend Tolkien that he came to be a Christian.  He was raised in a traditional church going home, turned away from God as an Atheist in his teen years and through trying to stay away from God and faith returned to God with...
