vision to keep on chasing the lion

Chase the Lion continues to be a huge blessing to The Community Fellowship church family.  This past weekend we revisited why we do what we do and the vision that God has given us.  I am passionate about God, His call on my life and the church He has given me to lead.

Yet I understand what God meant when He said that without vision people will die (spiritually) and live unguided lives...

Proverbs 29:18 (nlt) --- When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild.  But whoever obeys the law is joyful.
You can look at our church website and learn more about our vision and core values.  In what I shared with our people, these verses came to life for me:

Proverbs 1:20-23;33 (nlt) --- Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square.  She calls to the crowds along the main street, to those gathered in front of the city gate: "How long, you simpletons, will you insist on being simpleminded?  How long will you mockers relish your mocking?  How long will you fools hate knowledge?  Come and listen to my counsel.  I'll share my heart with you and make you wise...But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm."

Three thoughts:

1 --- God is speaking, even shouting to us what He wants and His direction for His people.  But are we listening?  Vision requires that we hear from God.

2 --- God is passionate about people, and we have to be passionate for God and for the people He cares about.  That is why we have to be ready and set to give what God have given us away.

3 --- We have to be dedicated to our calling from God.  Whatever it takes.  God did not call you or me to just sit on a pew at some church and "sit, soak and sour" for Him.  He called us to action.  Unapologetically I shared with our precious folks that if they are at The Community to be spectators and not to get involved, that they might need to find another place to be.  God calls us to action.  Think about it.

Our vision keeps us chasing the lion.  God-given vision keeps our focus clear and our action all about Him.  I challenge you and me to revisit what God has said and to chase the lion...to chase the vision that God has given us.  It is the gift to make a difference in the world we live in.

I don't know about you, but I am excited about the vision to keep on chasing the lion!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
