VISION to move :: Wednesday E-Devotion

Push forward.  Don't just sit there.  Act on it.  Do something.

As I think about vision, it comes to my attention that vision keeps us moving forward.  It won't let us sit still.  Again, this could be vision in all kinds of places...at home, at work, in your personal life and even at church.  My God-given vision for The Community drives me forward and won't let me sit still.  Think about it.

James 4:17 (nlt) --- Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.

Philippians 3:12 (nlt) --- I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.

Colossians 3:2 (nasb) --- Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

Romans 12:2 (nasb) --- And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Let God give you His vision.  When you do, you can not stay in one place, and you cannot avoid His truth.  Those four verses give people who have vision a real peace about being proactive.

Proactive or Reactive.  Which word best describes you?

What is the difference between reactive and proactive?  Proactive people know where they are going and push forward.  Reactive people let others rule and guide their lives.  Plus when we are reactive we often make decisions that are not as good and as sharp as they could have been when the situation was difference.

One of my favorite movies as of late illustrates this point well.  The movie is We Are Marshall.  It is the story of Marshall University's football program after much of their team was killed in a plane crash.  School officials wanted to cancel the football program, but one student drove a group of players and then the school to press on.  This student goes into a board meeting only to point the people to look out the window to see hundreds of students who begin shouting "we are Marshall".  One student made a huge difference.

Vision makes you move.  It won't let you stay in one place, and vision will help you leave a mark on the world.  Proactive.  Vision keeps us chasing the lion...it is all about Jesus!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
