Josh Waltman: an opportunity

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

Let me tell yo a story that has really blessed my life.

Last spring I got an email and then a phone call from one of our partners at The Community Fellowship.  This guy asked me a question out of the blue.  I didn't expect the question, the opportunity or anything like it to come our direction.  He asked if we would like a summer ministry intern.

Of coarse I said that we'd love to talk about the opportunity.  We did.  Now we have come a long and blessed way since then.  A week or so later I met Josh Waltman for lunch with this friend.  We talked for about an hour, and it was a real blessing to all 3 of us.  We agreed to see what would happen as partner together.

I knew we didn't have the funds to support and intern, but here was a blessing in front of us that we just had to accept.  It began the 1st of June and ended this past Sunday.  What has happened in between has been incredible.

Josh is a burly dude from the country near Danville, Virginia.  He graduated last spring from Liberty University and is set to enter seminary this fall.  Josh is a thinker who was and has been excited to get his hands dirty learning in ministry and serving others.  I watched Josh interact with our leaders and with people we have served.  He connect with them in every thing from a simple ministry of helps all the way to talking about spiritual truth.  I listened to him teach and this last Sunday heard him preach.

What an awesome blessing Josh Waltman has been to our church family this summer.  We have grown.  He has grown.  All of us are strong for it.

Here is the deal.  How often are we scared by the opportunities that come our way?  Do we turn them down or not give them a second thought?  If I had not stepped forward, lots of blessings would have been missed by several people including me and the people I love.

Take the opportunities.  Bless people you come in contact with.  Build up the people God brings in front of you, and watch God do a work around you that might just change you life and the life of others.

I thank God for the opportunity to serve with Josh cause this man of God is changing lives by being true to the God He loves and serves.  I am proud of you, Josh!

But this will be your opportunity to tell them about me.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
