I am confident

Joshua 2:11 NLT
No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the Lord your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below.

That verse comes from the story of Rahab, who was a harlot, and she hid the spies that Joshua had sent to see about Jericho for the first time.  There were several things going on in this situation that are so awesome.

First, the people of God, Israel, knew that God has granted them this land.  It was their land, and all they had to do was act in that direction.  Not so easy because that included removing the people who are already there.  But God was on the side of His people.

Second, these spies were in a tough place as they could be killed as they were the enemy of Jericho at this point.  They still knew what God said, but this was a covert operation to say the least.

Third, Rahab is not one of the most innocent people in the world.  She's part of the oldest profession there is.  But this lady has something going for her.  She believed God.  She had faith.  Checkout Hebrews 11 to see what God had to say about her faith.  That speaks for itself and it incredible if you ask me.

Fourth, the statement that Rahab made in the verse above is telling.  She said the people are scared essentially because God is on the side of the other people.  She was confident of that fact just as the spies were confident of what they were doing.

Are we confident like they are?  The last few days have had me checking my confidence in what I am doing and in the direction our church is headed.  What I have seen and learned and heard from God is that we are moving forward.  At the same time we must make sure we are listening close to what God says.  A bit earlier Joshua heard this:

Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.

There is our marching orders.  Be confident in what God says and in how He leads.  Lead others to follow the same.  Be a leader and not wishy washy thinking that someone else will step up.  God has called you.  He has given you a purpose.  Your time is now.  I am confident of what God has said.

That doesn't mean I run over people. It does mean that I speak and act confidently.  It means that I share what I have heard and seek to move forward one step at a time.  I am confident.

We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ.

Can you say what Paul said in that verse?  I am looking forward some people who are confident in the calling God has been on this church and His work through this church I serve, The Community Fellowship.  You need to be confident in the work that you are part of as well.

Read on a little further in Joshua and see how God saved Rahab and her family because of this lady's faith.  She was confident.

I am confident.  It is not time to stop or back up.  Plus, I am so excited about what God is doing.  I am confident in my God.  How about you?

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
