battle. victory.

All of us go through battles.  Some of them are physical.  Some of the battles are emotional.  I believe that many of them are spiritual, and God wants us to be ready for the battle.  As I think through this I am grateful for the people who have spoken in to my life in that past few days about preparing for what is in front of us.

Prayer prepares us for battle.  Prayer makes us ready for what is ahead and helps us to anticipate what God is going to do or what God is already doing.  Here are some of verses that I read through and shared with some of our folks on Thursday.

Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free. 9 Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Don’t threaten them; remember, you both have the same Master in heaven, and he has no favorites. 10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

There are more verses around those that talk about what we must do to be ready for all our battles, spiritual or otherwise.  Battles happen.  They happen every day, yet we can rest assured that God will prepare us for the things we will face, the good and the bad and the ugly.

Knowing what God says makes the battles much, much easier.  I heard John Bevere share this: the bigger the battle, the bigger the victory.  God allows us to see ahead of time and to prepare.  Yet many people fail to prepare for the battles of life.  Thus they or we prepare to fail.

God didn’t create us to fail.  He made us for His glory and for us to succeed, and we must remember that success comes with a price.  The more we are willing to prepare and to deal with life, the more blessings we will have and experience.

Believe what God says about your battle.  Believe what God says about your victory.

The LORD is my strength and my song; he has given me victory.

“Do not be afraid of them,” the LORD said to Joshua, “for I have given you victory over them. Not a single one of them will be able to stand up to you.”

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

Victory is ours.  Now we prepare for the battle.  Praise God that we are not alone!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

"Wild Goose Chase" by Mark Batterson (a review)

Hitting the book shelves of the bookstores and the market place on the Internet is Mark Batterson's book Wild Goose Chase .  This is an awesome book to follow In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day , Mark's first book.   You can follow Wild Goose Chase and also see Mark's "10 Steps to Setting Life Goals" at www.chasethegoose.com .   BOOK REVIEW (of sorts)   I really enjoy Mark Batterson's style and find him easy to read and understand.  At the same time I find myself challenged as a Christ follower and as a church leader.  The reader is reminded that life is intended, from God, to be an adventure and not boring.   Mark talks about six cages that hold Christians back from being who God intends for us to be.  They are: the cage of responsibility , the cage of routine , the cage of assumptions , the cage of guilt , the cage of failure , and the cage of fear .  Each one opens up some pretty deep questions for ...
