you are valuable

A friend sent me an interesting article that I would like to share with you, at least some of the big ideas.  It was written by Derek Prince who after preaching for years died a decade ago.

The big idea of the article was about the value of humans.  He wrote that you and I have extreme value that was given to us by God.  This is a truth that I have shared, preached about and believed for years, yet it is also one of the most difficult things to buy into without a proper view of who God is and how much God loves us.

God loves us and values us because He created us!

Genesis 1:26  NASB
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

God created us in His own image, and the awesome thing is that God cannot deny or will not deny Himself.  He valued us so much that after creating us and knowing that sin had to be dealt with, He willingly gave His son for our redemption.  He gave Jesus to purchase or to buy us.

We were created in the image of God, yet the greatest tragedy is that sin entered humanity.  We are still dealing with the problems of sin now.  It is true that Jesus died for our sins and God has forgiven us of our sins, but far too often we let our past and our mistakes determine our future and our value.  That could not be further from the truth.

God didn’t give up on the people He created.  Jesus was the price He paid, and in a story Jesus told we see an example of the price God was willing to pay to buy up back.  We are and will always be valuable to God.  Here is the story Jesus told:

Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls.  When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!

Prince said that Jesus is represented in the merchant.  This man knew what He wanted and knew the value of things.  The pearl represents humans like you and me.  It is like someone in our day that sold all he had --- car, house, possession, investments --- everything to buy what he knew had extreme value.  The merchant was willing to do anything to purchase that pearl.

God was and is willing to do anything to have us back.  When we realize our value, the value that God gives us, we will begin to live differently.  Our past won’t determine our future or hold us back.  Our failure won’t cancel our success.  Our negative issues won’t be able to overpower our minds and hearts because we have believed what God said about us.

God determined our value, and it will never change.  You are valuable!

My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

"Wild Goose Chase" by Mark Batterson (a review)

Hitting the book shelves of the bookstores and the market place on the Internet is Mark Batterson's book Wild Goose Chase .  This is an awesome book to follow In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day , Mark's first book.   You can follow Wild Goose Chase and also see Mark's "10 Steps to Setting Life Goals" at www.chasethegoose.com .   BOOK REVIEW (of sorts)   I really enjoy Mark Batterson's style and find him easy to read and understand.  At the same time I find myself challenged as a Christ follower and as a church leader.  The reader is reminded that life is intended, from God, to be an adventure and not boring.   Mark talks about six cages that hold Christians back from being who God intends for us to be.  They are: the cage of responsibility , the cage of routine , the cage of assumptions , the cage of guilt , the cage of failure , and the cage of fear .  Each one opens up some pretty deep questions for ...
