As
you read this I am part of a mission team in New York City serving with Metro World Child. Pray for us as we serve children and family
for the next 3 days. What an honor it is
to serve others around our home and those far from our home. I also challenge you to be part of our
mission offering which will serve those in need in our local area of Martinsville
and Henry County, Virginia as well as around the state of Virginia, in the USA
and around the world. Your gift helps to
meet practical needs and to share the truth of Salvation in Christ. Click HERE to
give.
I
shared the rest of this devotion with our church staff this week, and I believe
that all of us need to realize how blessed we are and how we are created to be
a blessing!
Understanding
who we are is vital. It battles
depression. It puts an end to questions of identity. It even pushes away living for the wrong
reasons. We are the people of
blessing. God destined us for blessings.
Genesis 12:2 NLT
I will make you into a great nation. I
will bless you and make you
famous, and you will be a blessing
to others.
Blessings
don’t come inherently from what we do.
Each one begins inside of us, deep in our hearts. The blessings find their origin in God. Just like He created us to walk with Him, God
created us to live with and to give blessing.
Ephesians 1:3 NLT
All praise to God, the Father of our
Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing
in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.
Being
a blessing is a choice. But it is
strange that being a blessing also becomes a life style. In our line of work it
is easy to loose sight of the blessings and become hardened to other
people. We must be reminded of our
blessings.
Psalm 37:26 NLT
The godly always give generous loans to
others, and their children are a
blessing.
When
others speak blessings over us, we need to take seriously what is said. Some of those things hit us well and ought to
be held tightly to while other words and thoughts, what some might call
blessings, really aren't that at all. Be
wise.
Luke 2:34 NLT
Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, the baby’s mother, “This child
is destined to cause many in Israel to fall, but he will be a joy to many others. He has been sent as a sign
from God, but many will oppose him.
Hebrews 7:7 NLT
And without question, the person who
has the power to give a blessing is greater than the one who is blessed.
It
is not about you. Be careful because
this is a place that many of us stumble.
It is all about God. He is the
reason we are blessed. He is the reason
we bless others. When we are in the way,
it is like an artery being clogged that doesn’t allow blood to circulate. Make sure you are clear and ready to receive
and to give blessings.
You
are blessed. You are blessed to be a
blessing!
