God rescued you and me from darkness

Start at a place where you know there is truth or a great foundation.  Then whatever you build on it will be stronger and able to stand again the enemy or any attack that may come.

2 Timothy 1:7  NLT
For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

Fear is one of the greatest enemies.  Fear doesn’t come from God.

John 10:10  NLT
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.

There is our enemy.  Plan and simple and true that Satan desires to make any follower of Jesus impotent and weak.  But if we believe what God says, we will be ready to seek and share truth, stand firm on faith, share our pain and our passion.

God gives us reason to live and to help others really live.  Something has changed in our lives, and it is time to share that change with others.  Hear well what God has done for you and for me.

Colossians 1:13-14  NLT
For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

Rescued.  That is a cool word and even more powerful reality.

Rescued could refer to an animal that is brought home to a family that is going to love, care for and enjoy the companionship of a new family pet.

Rescued could refer to a toy lost by a child in a stream that a parent finds a stick or even gets in the water to get that toy back.

Rescued could refer to a young person that was stolen and passed in to the sex trade of some country far away or even right here in our own community.

God rescued us in similar ways.  Each of those situations were real.  Many have experienced them, but many of us have also experienced the fact that God rescued us from darkness.  It is time for us to live in the light and leave darkness behind.  That is a choice.  It is a big and important choice.

1 Peter 2:9  NLT
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you

why is it Good Friday?

Holy Week is the time we focus on God and His gift of salvation.  We come to Friday.  The day we remember the cross, Jesus’ death and all God has done for you and me   Why do they call this day “Good Friday” because it doesn’t seems good?   Jesus was treated as a criminal.  He was beaten so much that He could not recognize Him.  His pain would have been too much for you or me to endure.  That is especially from Scripture I’ve read or as in the movie the  Passion of the Christ .   Yet it is a good day.  It is Good Friday because God had our good in His heart.  What Jesus did that day changed our forever direction. Here are some thoughts that come to me:   He is Redemption and Redeemer   He too our Pain and Punishment   He is our Righteousness and Reality   He is the Savior and Life   All of those happened from the cross.  It was meant for the worst lawbreakers.  It was not meant for a Savior who never broke a law.  It was lifted high so that onlookers could see the price Jesus.   Look

how we build others up

We started a new series at The Community Fellowship yesterday.  “Love and Life” will take us on a journey through First Corinthians 13, hat is well known as the love chapter. Next week we will talk about how godly love should characterize our relationships, our marriages and our homes.  But in this fist message we talked about the fact of how God’s loves helps us see others and find ways to care for others. Literally caring for others is a mark of a person who knows God and has found confidence in God’s love for them.  Think about how God’s love has touched your life. Jude 1:20-21  NLT   But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, 21 and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love. Love builds people up, yet many people are constantly beaten people up.  Are we beating on people or building people?  Are we pointing people to what ma
