What Child is this

On Mary's lap is sleeping?

Today I simply pull apart a few pieces of this old song that I love. Bet you have heard it.

What child is this? We have all asked that question at one time or another of our own children when they acted a certain way. Maybe we were even in shock when our child did something incredible. Where did they get that skill? Who taught them that?

Mary was astounded by her son as was Joseph. The world stood still because of her baby. That didn’t just happen when he was doing miracles, but when he was a baby and far beyond. Jesus was a special child sent from heaven. Remember?

Isaiah 9:6 NLT

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,
Come Peasant, King to own Him
The King of Kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.

What will I bring to Jesus? I am not asking about your offerings at church or how generous you are. Literally I am asking what are you giving to Jesus on a daily basis? Does he have your life, your commitment and your loyalty? We have that from Him. Jesus is so much more!

Hebrews 1:2 NLT

And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe.

I can imagine the shepherds kneeling, the wise men kneeling and even Joseph kneeling next to Jesus. But how about us kneeling before our Jesus, the gift of heaven, the child sent to us, the man who died for us and the Savior who is interceding for us?

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share. For me C.S. Lewis is one of those. He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class. It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before. He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 and died in 1963, 7 years before I was born.
