Stop and pray! But don’t stop there. Think for a few minutes. What is so easy even when we are seeking to be sensitive to others is that we too often miss many things because we are running here and there.
It might be that we could bless even more people or help in greater ways those that we pray for by understanding their needs. Maybe that is simply stopping to listen. Maybe stopping to actually pray with a person rather saying you will be praying. There are many ways to stop and think.
Amazed is a word that characterizes the events of our world these days. I don’t watch the news very much. I do scroll through Facebook and read a few newspaper articles. There are so many things happening. I heard stories this week of human trafficking, stories of great pain and even the horror of people taking their own lives. Step on to another place and I see the difficultly of homeless friends around our community that have great needs.
When we stop and pray, we are impacting lives. By stopping to think a little more we could save ourselves or others from a life of pain or learn from the things God wants to teach us.
Colossians 3:12 NLT
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tender hearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
That is a great way to look at people, at situations and at yourself. Clothed with what is on God’s heart will help us to think more and pray deeper.
2 Thessalonians 1:3 NIV
We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.
See how God is growing the faith and service of those around you and of your faith too.
Colossians 1:9 NLT
So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Note: parts of this devotion were first shared last January and remains an encouragement I often share… STOP & PRAY.
