Today’s post is simple. I want to share a few take-a-ways from our Cuba mission trip. Just off the top of my head several things that went right or were real blessings from God.
1. It is good to unplug, to take a break, to not be in control, to go with the flow and to watch what God does.
2. Listen more than you speak. When they speak another language, you have to listen even more, which might mean use a Google translator or find someone who speaks the language.
3. Watch their eyes and the expression on their faces. You might be able to understand their words, but their faces tell much of the story. You will remember their smiles and how they felt for a long time.
4. Taste everything, at least a little. You can finally say you tried that. You might even like it.
5. You might come across something that God is doing when you least expect it. That is the time to learn and even jump in. Get excited with the people around you.
6. Changing the schedule isn’t a bad thing. It will be OK.
7. God speaks in many ways. You know like through the Bible or music or through a friend or through the Spirit inside you. But also speaks through dancing or through a picture or even through a hug.
8. It is OK when what you thought would work doesn’t. God has a backup plan, and you don’t have to figure it out. It will work out, and it will be better than it was before.
9. Simple blessings are just that. Simply blessings.
10. Be a blessing. If God puts something on your heart, don’t rob a person of the blessing that you have to give and don’t rob yourself of giving the blessing you have been provided.
11. Keep on dreaming. Having too much going on keeps you from dreaming. When the dreams start rolling, go that direction. Write them down. Share them with those close to you.
12. When you don’t understand, don’t discount what is going on. It might take a while or you might never understand. Remember that God has a plan.
13. There are the coolest places where you expect them the least.
14. A short walk with a friend offers lots of growth, maybe even some cool learning.
15. Cuban food doesn’t have all the extra stuff that much food has in the United States.
16. I don’t like coffee. I like Cuban coffee.
17. The most awesomest (yeah, it’s my word) are not the ones you plan to meet. They are the ones that God puts in your path for you to meet.
18. There is always a cheaper price, but there might not be another opportunity.
19. The passion of a person driven by the dream God put in their heart is worth listening to and pouring in to. Listen. Feed them. Share them. Leave the negativity for someone else.
20. Cuba is a great place, and I cannot wait to go back and see how God builds on these trips and on the dreams of ministry leaders!
