Jesus is Christmas

It is almost one week till Christmas. We have so much to be thankful for. PLUS this is one of those times of the year that we might miss the very meaning of the season, its celebration and making much of our God.

With that said I would like to remind us, or be reminded, what God tells us about Christmas. It is all about Christ, the gift God the Father gave us. His purpose remains clear. He was looked for. He is looked to. He is followed and worthy of our following. That is true for me, and I pray it is true for you as well.

Walk with me through some of those reminders…

Genesis 12:3 NIV

“I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

Isaiah 7:14 NIV

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

Isaiah 11:1 NIV

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

Micah 5:2 NIV

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

And those are just from the Old Testament.

Jesus is sent from God to be a blessed to us.

Jesus was sent as Immanuel who is God with us.

Jesus is the guide, the leader, the bet possible spokesman for us to see and hear and follow God.

Jesus is the wonderful counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of peace and so much more.

Jesus came as a ruler, but not the ruler others thought He would be.

Jesus was for in a place where no king was expected to be born to people who were to who brought royalty in to the world.

Yet Jesus is Christmas for each and every one of us. Spend some time celebrating Jesus and looking away from the shining lights, the busyness of of buying and the endless things to do.

Christmas is for everyone, and Christmas is all about Jesus!

One of the most powerful preachers, writers and leaders of our time, in my opinion, is Francis Chan. His first book, Crazy Love , revolutionized my thoughts about God's love as well as my interacting with God. Now it is time for a brand new book from Chan being released tomorrow, September 1st. The book is Forgotten God . This is a phenomenal book about the power that Christians and the church can and must tap into. All of it is within the Holy Spirit. Francis talks about the power that was seen in the book of Acts when the Holy Spirit began to move among people. It is true that many have avoided or maybe forgotten what the Holy Spirit is all about. And like the Savior who poured out His life and blood so we have reason to rejoice, we were made to lay down our lives and give until it hurts. inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share. For me C.S. Lewis is one of those. He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class. It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before. He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 and died in 1963, 7 years before I was born. It wasn’t until his 30’s that under the influence of his friend Tolkien that he came to be a Christian.
