Palm Sunday and my King

We continued our series called MY KING yesterday focusing on the fact that Jesus is our forever king.  It is also Palm Sunday.

Jesus is the one who came in to Jerusalem on that special day as the people were celebrating Passover.  So many people had experienced something out of the ordinary as they followed Jesus.  Many were simply curious about Jesus.  That is where we find the people celebrating Jesus as more than a man.  he is the God man, sent from the Father.

This begins what we know as Holy Week.  It began with Palm Sunday and moves through several different scenes cumulating in Jesus on the cross and ending with the surprise and excitement of the empty tomb.  Jesus was and is resurrected.

Jesus is the king who came to town on that first Palm Sunday.

He is Jesus Christ, sent from the Father, He is Lord and Savior, the blessed and only Sovereign, king of kings and Lord of lords, He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end.  He is our Savior.  He is the one and only.  He is one celebrated, elevated and the reason for it all.

So here is my question.  Do you know Him?  Maybe you would have found yourself on the road that day.  It was an incredible day as the celebration had begun.  The town was abuzz.  It was electric and exciting.  We call that day Palm Sunday.

John 12:12-13  NLT

The next day, the news that Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem swept through the city. A large crowd of Passover visitors 13 took palm branches and went down the road to meet him. They shouted, “Praise God!  Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!  Hail to the King of Israel!”

That must have been a great day.  Can you imagine being around all that was going on?  Not just the close followers of Jesus but people who were curious.

Something had to give in their minds this day.  Remember that just a few days later we will see the cross of calvary which is the mark of our Salvation and it’s promises.  But they didn’t know that.

In a matter of days they went from loving Him and then hating him.  No that wasn’t the closest people, but it was some.  Be careful not to do the same.  Many have.  Be honest, we have or I have.

It is a paradox if you will.  You have Him, Jesus, celebrated and lauded as king while a few days later He is killed as a criminal.  What keeps us seeing Him as King and worshipping Him?  What keeps us there is our relationship with Him.

He is king, and He is king forever.  John in the book of Revelation gives us some insight as well.  There is so much going on, but I want to give you a small snap shot of what God has for us in the future.

1 Peter 3:15  NASB

but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, but with gentleness and respect;

Others mocked Jesus as a king when we know Him, celebrate Him and elevate Him as our king or my king!

John 19:19  NASB

Now Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written: “JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

Take time this week to focus on Jesus.  Take in the events of Holy Week leading up to Easter.  It is going to be a great week.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
