see a need and meet it

Psalm 146:8  NLT

The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down. The Lord loves the godly.

For the next few days I am serving with the Men On A Mission team.  Each year, other than during Covid, this team gathers on Memorial Day week to help build or rebuild a church or community.  Twice this group has been with us at our new campus, and these are incredible people.

Typically it is a team of 60 to 80 men with all kinds of skills who are ready to hit the ground running.  This week there are about 25 men who are helping rebuild homes in the tornado torn area around Dawson Springs, Kentucky.

I drove through the area today, and I was torn deep inside seeing the devastation that the tornados of last December did to this region.  It really is huge.  Actually this area reminds me of my Oklahoma home during my childhood and the many storms that came near us and did lots of damage.

Today there are places that look like wide runways for airplanes that are actually places where tornados swooped down to touch and destroy towns, farms and everything in between.  I saw people living in campers, in out buildings, in homes that shouldn’t be used and even saw some living in horse trailers.  Then we listened to some local people talk about the storm itself and about all that has gone on since the storms.

The pain and struggle is real.  These people are slowly rebuilding their lives and their community, and it does take many people to give a hand, to serve together, and to make a difference.  You and I can make that difference.

If you see a need, meet it.  Remember what Jesus did when He saw people in need!

Matthew 14:14  NLT

Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

When you see a need, do something about it.  When you have the opportunity to help or can give to meet a need, do it.  Don’t hold back.  Don’t wait till later.  Use what God have put in your hand to make a difference in the lives of others.

Use your gifts.  Use your money.  Use your talent.  Use your times.  Use what you have to help those in need.

In the middle of making a difference God will renew you, refresh you, give you wisdom and even fill you with more than you had before.  Test God on this one, and watch how God works in your life!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you

why is it Good Friday?

Holy Week is the time we focus on God and His gift of salvation.  We come to Friday.  The day we remember the cross, Jesus’ death and all God has done for you and me   Why do they call this day “Good Friday” because it doesn’t seems good?   Jesus was treated as a criminal.  He was beaten so much that He could not recognize Him.  His pain would have been too much for you or me to endure.  That is especially from Scripture I’ve read or as in the movie the  Passion of the Christ .   Yet it is a good day.  It is Good Friday because God had our good in His heart.  What Jesus did that day changed our forever direction. Here are some thoughts that come to me:   He is Redemption and Redeemer   He too our Pain and Punishment   He is our Righteousness and Reality   He is the Savior and Life   All of those happened from the cross.  It was meant for the worst lawbreakers.  It was not meant for a Savior who never broke a law.  It was lifted high so that onlookers could see the price Jesus.   Look
