back in Cuba

Galatians 5:13   NLT

For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.

Tomorrow I will be back in Cuba, and I will be serving again with the FCA staff there.  We are working with FCA leaders across the country as well as with student athletes and coaches.

This will be my third trip this year and my sixth time in Cuba serving with these incredible people.  Each trip and each opportunity seems to open up more possibilities as well as the ability to see what God is doing in places many of us are not aware of.

FCA is Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and I am honored to work with this same group in Virginia FCA Southside Virginia that covers a four county area where we live.  And in Cuba we have found some great connections, similar work, to some people making a difference in the name of Jesus.

This week and through next Wednesday please pray for those we are partnering with while on this trip as we serve…

Pray for Alex and his family.  Alex is the director of FCA work in Cuba.  He and his wife and two sons are sweet people.  His wife, Daine, recently gave birth to their second son.  Her health has not been good as she has been in the hospital twice but is now home.  Pray for her health and their family.  Pray for God to provide what they need and more partners who will help the ministry grow stronger.

Pray for Vladimir, Diocelis, Maykel and Odeivis’.  These are the leaders of FCA work across Cuba.  There are other leaders, but these are the men and their families that I get to connect with and encourage.  Pray for their impact on many lives through the community God has placed them in.

Pray for the many others we will serve with.  On this trip I will be helping with ministry training in Villa Clara which is about a six hour drive east of Havana.  Pray for great connections and understanding.  Pray for my family back home while I am gone.  Pray for encouragement of those that we will be connecting with.  Pray for all the details that need to come together.

Thank you for your continued prayers.  My biggest prayer request is that we will make much of Jesus this Christmas season.  He really is the reason for this season!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you

why is it Good Friday?

Holy Week is the time we focus on God and His gift of salvation.  We come to Friday.  The day we remember the cross, Jesus’ death and all God has done for you and me   Why do they call this day “Good Friday” because it doesn’t seems good?   Jesus was treated as a criminal.  He was beaten so much that He could not recognize Him.  His pain would have been too much for you or me to endure.  That is especially from Scripture I’ve read or as in the movie the  Passion of the Christ .   Yet it is a good day.  It is Good Friday because God had our good in His heart.  What Jesus did that day changed our forever direction. Here are some thoughts that come to me:   He is Redemption and Redeemer   He too our Pain and Punishment   He is our Righteousness and Reality   He is the Savior and Life   All of those happened from the cross.  It was meant for the worst lawbreakers.  It was not meant for a Savior who never broke a law.  It was lifted high so that onlookers could see the price Jesus.   Look
