the temple and holy week

It is Holy Week. Full of meaning. This is an important week for those who have chosen to follow Jesus. It is an invitation to a holy, to a celebration of new life. His love is depicted, draw out in vivid and living color in Holy Week. Love for you. Love for me.

Walking further in to the week we watch the life of Jesus being poured out over and over again. He lived not for the moment but for eternity. He gave not for a simple feeling but a lifetime of peace. He loved not for pleasure but for the fulfillment of God’s unending plan.

That the depth of what Easter and Holy Week share with whoever will come to its window and peek. That is what can be experienced if we choose to walk through the door choosing life based upon what really matters.

Early in Holy Week Jesus continued to do what made much sense to Him and through His calling from the Father. When He walked through the Temple, this is what we found:

Matthew 21:12-13 NLT

Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out all the people buying and selling animals for sacrifice. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves. 13 He said to them, “The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer,’ but you have turned it into a den of thieves!”

The temple was not a place for all the holiness to dwell. The temple was the place for His holy people to gather, learn and lift His praise. The same is true today. God inhabits His people, bot buildings. The church today is the place He told us not to forget or miss.

Don’t miss Holy Week. Don’t stop following the one who loves you most and was sent by God and willingly followed the plan for our life and abundance. Jesus stepped in to Holy Week. Now it is your turn and mine.

May we experience Jesus. May we lead others to experience Him as well. Lift Him. Praise Him. Keep on following Him.

Matthew 16:15-16 NLT

Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Ask someone to go to church with you this Sunday. It is at Easter that people are more likely going to accept that invite to church and hear the message of life in Christ. Invite someone to come to know Jesus this holy week!

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns. One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns. When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her. Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved. Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?" Beverly said, "Why yes I do." Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow. He served. He valued and gave value to others. That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet. It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives. Jesus said we should do this. See the verse above. Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
