be salt. be light.

Be who you are created to be.  Too many people try to act like and make others think they are people they are not.  Be you and be the real you!

That is the journey God places in front of us.  It is not a trick.  He is not hiding our identity or what He says is best for us and our future.  We serve a great and a good God who is for His people.

This past Sunday I shared from Matthew 5 about the basics of our faith.  Those basic truths will keep us from drifting from God.  In those verses are some pointed thoughts that help us understand how living out our faith can make a difference in the lives of us.

Just be you.  If you do, here is what will happen.

Matthew 5:13-16  NLT

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.  14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Be salt.

Salt does several things.  But the two parts that stick out to me are these: first, salt gives flavor, and second salt is preservative.  Give flavor to the people you encounter.  By living by faith we add flavor and meaning to lift.  Also living by faith preserves life for us and others.  Let others know how you have experienced God and how they can experience Him too.

Be light.

I like this one.  Light points you in the right direction as well keeps you from getting lost.  There are things that light does, but these things stick out big time.  Point people to truth and to God.  Our actions, our words and our lives shed and share the light of God.  Faith is light.  Many people live in darkness, yet if we live for Jesus, they will begin to see light and have hope.

May we choose today something more important than just getting by.  Be salt.  Be light.

God will use our lives to impact others!  Be salt and be light today and every day!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you

why is it Good Friday?

Holy Week is the time we focus on God and His gift of salvation.  We come to Friday.  The day we remember the cross, Jesus’ death and all God has done for you and me   Why do they call this day “Good Friday” because it doesn’t seems good?   Jesus was treated as a criminal.  He was beaten so much that He could not recognize Him.  His pain would have been too much for you or me to endure.  That is especially from Scripture I’ve read or as in the movie the  Passion of the Christ .   Yet it is a good day.  It is Good Friday because God had our good in His heart.  What Jesus did that day changed our forever direction. Here are some thoughts that come to me:   He is Redemption and Redeemer   He too our Pain and Punishment   He is our Righteousness and Reality   He is the Savior and Life   All of those happened from the cross.  It was meant for the worst lawbreakers.  It was not meant for a Savior who never broke a law.  It was lifted high so that onlookers could see the price Jesus.   Look
