There were many challenges on this last trip to Cuba. Some of these challenges are the day in and day out issues that all our friends in Cuba deal with, and these break my heart. This is everything from the limited supply of food making it hard for families to have what they need just to feed themselves and their children. Another challenge is limited transportation as well as the lack of fuel.
Being a socialist country that deals with great economic struggles and poverty heightens that problems that almost everyone that lives or travels to Cuba will deal with. I have only experienced a few of these on my many trips, and it gives me a reason to pray even more for our fiends and their families.
Colossians 1:29 NLT
That’s why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within me.
The challenges and struggle is worth it all. The reason that is the case is that there are people who need Jesus. My call there is to support the sports ministry staff and their families. I love each of them. Grateful for their friendships.
One of the challenges we dealt with was transportation. Families from both ends of the country gathered near the middle of the country. They got together for several reasons. We shared leadership training, offered times of fellowship and more. I loved seeing their encourage one another and love on each other. Still getting everyone together was tough. Some came on buses. Some traveled in cars. Some were on church vans. There were many ways, but the fact is we got together. It was good.
Another challenge were the accommodations we had. A great friend helped arrange the lodging and foods. But in the mix of it there was a business that failed to meet they promises. Another hotel lost reservations and so much more. I was told this is common in Cuba, but it was extremely frustrating. Even after waiting for almost 11 hours we got in our rooms, and the next day was amazing as we learned, laughed and shared with each other. God was so gracious.
It was worth the challenges. Why? Because people still need to accept Jesus as their savior. That is why we share. That is why this ministry is important. Pray for each person that has part in this ministry that they will be blessed, encouraged and used by God greatly to help more athletes, coaches and family come to Christ!
1 Corinthians 9:23 NLT
I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.
