what we taste

This week we are looking at the impact of our 5 senses.  God gave these to us to help us enjoy life and to experience Him.  The 5 senses are sight, sound, smell, taste and touch.  We have talked about what we touch, hear and see.  Today we will discuss what we taste.

Thought the Bible God talks about what we eat.  The Old Testament speaks of things that are unclean and should not be eaten.  Yet in the New Testament God says that everything is clean for us.

What we have come to understand is somethings are just not good for us.  Some food improves our health while other foods are not healthy.  We need to be careful what we choose to taste and to eat.

God takes this picture and tells us, in many different places, to taste what the Lord has for us.  At one place God says we should eat something like the book, or the word of God.  Feasting on the good things changes our lives.  Even the goodness of God is to be tasted and found to be good.

Psalm 44:8  NLT

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!

We should be eating the things that nourish us.  Long for the things that make us stronger and better as well as what brings God glory.

1 Peter 2:2-3  NLT

Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, 3 now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness.

There again with God’s kindness and goodness that makes our lives riches and better.  Everyone who wants what God wants spends time with and even ingests what God offers.  That is why a baby needs milk for growth.  As we grow up we need to eat what helps us grow even more.

Hebrews 5:13-14  NLT

For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. 14 Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.

There is a time to grow up and eat what makes us stronger.  Taste is one of the greatest scenes God has given us.  I do love to eat, but I have learned that we should be careful with what we taste.

Thank God for the sense of taste.  Enjoy the goodness of God and what He has blessed us with.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you

why is it Good Friday?

Holy Week is the time we focus on God and His gift of salvation.  We come to Friday.  The day we remember the cross, Jesus’ death and all God has done for you and me   Why do they call this day “Good Friday” because it doesn’t seems good?   Jesus was treated as a criminal.  He was beaten so much that He could not recognize Him.  His pain would have been too much for you or me to endure.  That is especially from Scripture I’ve read or as in the movie the  Passion of the Christ .   Yet it is a good day.  It is Good Friday because God had our good in His heart.  What Jesus did that day changed our forever direction. Here are some thoughts that come to me:   He is Redemption and Redeemer   He too our Pain and Punishment   He is our Righteousness and Reality   He is the Savior and Life   All of those happened from the cross.  It was meant for the worst lawbreakers.  It was not meant for a Savior who never broke a law.  It was lifted high so that onlookers could see the price Jesus.   Look
