power trip

Power trip.

Maybe I have your attention with the time of this e-devotion, but I am not talking about the power trip that you might be thinking about.  That would be when a person has lots of authority and throws it around.

What I am sharing today is a trip.  A trip through a few books of the Bible with some powerful verses that speak to my life.  There you go on a different but cool power trip.

It is a lot of verses.  Just read.  See what sticks out to you.  Here we go.

Genesis 15:5  NLT

Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!”

Exodus 3:2-5  NLT

There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up. 3 “This is amazing,” Moses said to himself. “Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go see it.” 4 When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” “Here I am!” Moses replied. 5 “Do not come any closer,” the Lord warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on holy ground.

Esther 4:14  NLT

If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?”

Psalm 19:1-2  NLT

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. 2  Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known.

Proverbs 8:10-11  NLT

Choose my instruction rather than silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. 11  For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with it.

Isaiah 6:8  NLT

Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” I said, “Here I am. Send me.”

Matthew 4:19  NLT

Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”

John 3:16  NLT

For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

Acts 21:20  NLT

After hearing this, they praised God. And then they said, “You know, dear brother, how many thousands of Jews have also believed, and they all follow the law of Moses very seriously.

Romans 4:20  NLT

Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.

1 Peter 4:10  NLT

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.

Jude 1:20-21  NLT

But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, 21 and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.

That is enough for today.  And those are powerful verses, but there are so many more.  May we seek the Lord and hear His voice.  His power is so much better than any power we would find without Him.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
