A couple years ago I received a book that has really encouraged my prayer life. We have also been using it for over a year in our Sunday church services, and I want to comment this book to you.
The book by Daniel Henderson is Praying the Psalms, and it continues to be a blessing. A huge one as I use it often daily in my personal life. Yesterday I read Psalm 93 which is a great Psalm and a reminder I needed.
Psalm 93:2-5 NLT
Your throne, O Lord, has stood from time immemorial. You yourself are from the everlasting past. 3 The floods have risen up, O Lord. The floods have roared like thunder; the floods have lifted their pounding waves. 4 But mightier than the violent raging of the seas, mightier than the breakers on the shore— the Lord above is mightier than these! 5 Your royal laws cannot be changed. Your reign, O Lord, is holy forever and ever.
The simple truth of that Psalm is that the world is in a storm, there is a storm around me, but God doesn’t change, is steady and takes care of the storms.
We need to know that, claim that, pray that and remember when we are challenged or hurt. God is always our God no matter the situation around us.
I challenge you to go find that book and let God use the Psalms in your prayer life. In how we use it at church is called “creating a culture of prayer”. That is a commitment to helping the church be healthy and strong because we do something that God has told us to do.
Either at church or in other places, spend time praying, and use the book of Psalms to guide your prayers.
Psalm 6:9 NLT
The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord will answer my prayer.
