It is almost time for back2school, this Friday and Saturday. Over the next few days I am going to share part of what students will experience during the back2school program and how it got started. The first years was only school supplies. Then we added backpacks. Then came shoes and lots of locations where students are served.
More than 20 years ago I heard a missionary from Appalachia share about serving students, and that testimony sparked something in my mind. That next summer and after starting The Community Fellowship we have been serving through back2school.
More than 15 years ago I was at a meeting where a friend introduced me to the ministry of Samaritan’s Feet and it’s founder Emmanuel “Manny” Ohonme. That ministry serves people around the world by giving shoes, washing feet and sharing the Gospel.
We began partnering with Samaritan’s Feet that actually sparked the first mission trip to Cuba. You could say that the rest is history, both Cuba missions and back2school.
Over 42,000 students have been served in the 19 years that our outreach back2school has been around. During this outreach students and their families hear the Gospel and serviced by numerous volunteers.
Back2school is intended to encourage students and help them be successful in a new school year. But even deeper and further, it is about sharing the truth of Jesus. It really is all about Jesus and our commitment to demonstrating God’s love to our community and beyond.
John 3:16-17 NKJV
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
Pray for the students as they hear about Jesus. Come and help us serve students. It is a great opportunity for all who share and for all who hear. Please help us make back2school a reality. Pray for back2school and serve with us. Email your questions or comments (emailback2school@gmail.com) and go to www.gob2s.com for more details.
