cry out to the Lord

Recognizing who God is essential for those who choose to follow Him.  There are so many places where God shows up, where we see Him work and how much He loves us.

During the sermon yesterday at The Community Fellowship I shared a story within a story that has really gripped my heart and reminded me of how much our God loves us and wants to work in our lives.  Check out this Scripture and story.

Luke 9:37-43a  NLT

The next day, after they had come down the mountain, a large crowd met Jesus. 38 A man in the crowd called out to him, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, my only child. 39 An evil spirit keeps seizing him, making him scream. It throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It batters him and hardly ever leaves him alone. 40 I begged your disciples to cast out the spirit, but they couldn’t do it.” 41 Jesus said, “You faithless and corrupt people! How long must I be with you and put up with you?” Then he said to the man, “Bring your son here.” 42 As the boy came forward, the demon knocked him to the ground and threw him into a violent convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the evil spirit and healed the boy. Then he gave him back to his father. 43 Awe gripped the people as they saw this majestic display of God’s power.

This father loved his son, and he was willing to do whatever it took to help his boy be well.  By this time they most likely have tried plenty of other things.  My guess is that the father, as well as the son, was desperate and in need.

That is where we find the father in these verses calling out to God, begging Jesus to heal his son.  The father had come to believe that Jesus can do this and even do more.

Jesus had compassion on the father.  The father loved his son and wanted the best for him.  But what strikes me most is that Jesus didn’t just remove the demons, but Jesus healed the boy.

The demon had tormented the boy for a long time, but there was also significant damage to his body and his health.  Jesus worked in the boys life through casting out the demon and healing him.

It is so beautiful and touching to see that Jesus gave the son back to the father, and this boy was completely healed.

Never does our God do things half way.  This boy was healed.  Even the effects and the scares that the demon left on this boy’s body were healed.  Not just delivered from the demons. But the marks and the pain from what the demon caused the boy was healed from.

Return to Jesus, my friend.  Let God heal you.  Cry out to God.  He will come to you, rescue you and make you well.  He will make you new, better than ever, and now our turn is to return to Jesus and thank Him for all He has done.

Psalm 18:6  NLT

But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.

Psalm 34:17  NLT

The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles.

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
