This past Sunday I shared a message with our church in our series “prepare me” as we get ready for Easter. I challenged us to take God at His work and ask for Wisdom. But when we ask there may be a problem, and that problem is fueled by doubting.
James 1:5-8 NLT
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.
That is the Scripture I shared. It is also, verse 5, my life verse. We should ask God for wisdom and not doubt. Doubting as these verses share note that our attention and lives are divided between the world and God. By doubting we show our faith is struggling.
Matthew 21:21 NLT
Then Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen.
Strong faith that overcomes doubts leads to seeing and being a part of lives of faith as we follow God. It is possible. That is not that we are perfect, but that we trust God and get closer to him.
Matthew 6:19-21 NLT
“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
Where is your treasure? Wisdom is seen in what we treasure. Let God fill you with His wisdom, guide you as you walk with Him and show that your faith is strong, growing and settled on God.
One final thought. When we ask God for wisdom, choose to guard your heart so that only God impacts your life!
Proverbs 4:23 NLT Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
