Good Friday

 


Easter weekend is here.  Friday is the day of the reckoning of efforts of those who wanted to remove Jesus.  But that’s not what happened.  This is the highest place and the purpose for which Jesus to come to earth.

 

Sent from God the Father.  He is the Christ.  He is our sacrifice.  Without the cross, there is no resurrection.  Without the death, there is no life after death. 

 

1 Corinthians 1:18  NASB

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

 

The cross on Friday brought death.  The resurrection on Sunday brought life.


The cross is the place where we fall apart and where sin is dealt with.  The beating of Jesus leading up to the cross would leave the one sent to die almost at the point of death but not quite.

 

Jesus gave his life freely.  Who killed Jesus?  That is the tough question and the wrong question.  Jesus actually gave His life for us.  He willingly laid down His life and died in your place and mine.  That was Friday.

 

Then came Sunday.  He is alive.  Jesus isn’t in the grave.  The tomb is empty.  It is still empty.  God’s plan has been accomplished through the life, death, burial and resurrection of this holy, God-sent one.  This is the finished work of God

 

Matthew 28:6  NLT

He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.

 

May our lives find strength and truth in who Jesus is and what Jesus did for us.  May our Easter celebrations be centered totally on Jesus which the understanding of what happened on the cross and what was completed in the resurrection when Jesus walked out of the tomb.

 

We are changed, blessed and never again the same.  All of that because Jesus is alive!  Enjoy this resurrection weekend and make much of Jesus!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
