a new look at Psalm 23

Psalm 23 is an incredible piece of Scripture, literature, encouragement and even a gift from God. Psalm 23 is a gift from God. I need this kind of treat and long for it.

Have you come to love Psalm 23? It is quoted in so many places and references in countless sermons and devotions. There are many passages in the Bible that come to mind when I think of my favorites. Few that are as well known as Psalm 23.

The beauty of chapter of Psalms gets our attention in many different translations. Today I share with you The Message translation of the Bible. It is a powerful reminder. This is good stuff.

Psalm 23 The Message

God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing. You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction. 4 Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure. 5 You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing. 6 Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of God for the rest of my life.

How sweet is the truth of Scripture, and in particular this Passage. This truth from Psalm 23 in a different version comes alive.

May our lives be transformed by our good and gracious shepherd who is pursuing us and caring for us all the time.

Psalm 23 is a reminder of His goodness, His seeking us and His guiding our lives each day. It is a gift from God turning our hearts toward God. Have a great weekend and bask in the goodness of God!

inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share. For me C.S. Lewis is one of those. He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class. It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before. He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 and died in 1963, 7 years before I was born.
