pray for back2school

One of the greatest times of the year is now.  My wife might not agree because it means her summer break is over, but back2school is one of the best and brightest parts of our ministry.

The Community Fellowship began 20 years ago and so did back2school.  Since that time we have had the honor to serve over 46,000 students and their families.  You read that right.  This year we will add a couple thousand more to that number, and I want to remind you that it is not about the number but about sharing Jesus with others.

Students will receive a new backpack with school supplies, some receive clothing and a hair cut, and all receive new shoes and shoes as well as have their feet washed.  All the while they see the love of God lived out and hear the story of God’s love and His life through the many who take part in serving.

1 Thessalonians 2:8  NLT

We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.

There it is.  That is why we do back2school every year.  It is a huge event with lots of investment.  It is also a great opportunity to let others know what really matters most.

Back2school is intended to encourage students and help them have a successful new school year.  Deeper and further, back2school is about sharing the truth of Jesus with as many students and their families as possible.  It is all about Jesus and our commitment to giving others what has been given to us.

Please pray for the students that will hear about Jesus.  Come and help us share God’s love with students.  It is going to be a great opportunity for all who share and for all who hear.

John 3:16-17  NKJV

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Please help us make back2school a reality.  Pray for back2school and serve with us.  Email your questions or comments (emailback2school@gmail.com) and go to www.gob2s.com for more details.

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
