overflow of back2school

It’s not over completely as we have one more location that will be serving students this coming Saturday, but this past weekend nine back2school places served students.  It was incredible, and I would like to share the overflow. No, I am not talking about the numbers and the data.  That will come eventually.  What the overflow is … it is the God stuff that took place. There were hiccups and hurdles we had to get over.  Yet God sent us people who were a blessing.  The smiles and the hugs were plenty.  The resources were in place to do what they were meant to do, and honestly, this is why we do what we do. It is all to share the fact that there is hope in Jesus.  Students heard stories about God changing people’s lives.  Each one had their feet washed by a volunteer that talked to them about their future, encouraged them to dream and prayed with each one. Let me start with those who served.  Our volunteer team is amazing.  We had a ...

it is time for backpacks

Here are some ways to make #back2school 2018 a success:   pray for all involved (those served and those serving), volunteer at one of 12 churches, give to support the events, be part of the special needs day on Friday or the big day on Saturday, AND the “hope gathering” Friday evening in Martinsville! Matthew 18:20     NLT For where two or three   gather   together   as my followers, I am there among them. It is incredible to get together with several hundred friends for a common cause.   That is what will happen tonight when  one of my favorite happenings of #back2school is when we come together to put the school supplies in backpacks.    This is incredible.   I plan to take it in, take pictures, give hugs, laugh a lot and remind everyone how good our God is. It is for the students and their families.    When they receive their backpack as well as the other items, we will be able ...

just the facts #back2school

Matthew 19:14    NLT Jesus said, “Let the  children   come  to me. Don’t stop them!  For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these  children .” Just the facts. Hard to believe that we are about to celebrate the 11th year of the  back2school outreach event that takes place across southern Virginia and beyond. Started by The Community Fellowship we have served more than 18,000 students.  Our 2018 goal is to serve 4,000 students across our communities at the main event on August 4th.   Many churches, individuals and organizations have joined the effort to prepare students for a successful new school year.  Every day I hear from more people who want to be a part and about new churches that have thrown their proverbial hat in the ring. There is nothing like partnering together to impact so many with the hope that comes in huge loads from our great and mighty God.  The...

back2school comes alive

Ezekiel 34:26   NLT I will bless my   people   and their homes around my holy hill. And in the proper season I will send the showers they need. There will be showers of   blessing . Why the fuss?   There are so many reasons for what we do.   In particular I am speaking about our back2school outreach that will celebrate it’s 10th year in just a few days.   Why do we and all these other churches go to the lengths we do to serve students?   It is because we know that serving others is always right. A few things or thoughts I hold tightly to that I’d like to share with you.   (None of these are original with me.)   Whoever shows up most in someone’s life wins the battle of influence.   To find your purpose in life begin by serving others.   Real service with true love is shown in serving someone who cannot serve you in return. It makes me so excited to see the new churches that have joined in this year.   Fou...
