  Yesterday we began a new series from Psalm 103.  This is a powerful chapter written by King David who had personal experience and deep love for God.  The challenge is to go deep in the Word of God and let that overflow in your life. Psalm 103:1-2  CSB   My soul, bless the Lord, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 My soul, bless the Lord, and do not forget all his benefits. David’s heart is overwhelmed with praise toward God.  This was real.  This was deep.  From the deepest place in His life.  In fact, he wants to make sure that his soul does not forget all the benefits that have come from Him because of this relationship.  Those benefits are the things that life can’t give us but faith can.  David goes on to give us a short list in verses 3 through 5.  He mentions forgiveness, healing, love and more.  He had experienced God which left His life changed forever. Colossians 2:6-7 NLT And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him.   Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. This is the start of a passage that has a lot to do with what might get in the way of what we believe. If we follow the teaching of new age or of tradition or anything other than Jesus, we will miss what lasts, what cares for us and what can sustain us during the most difficult of times. These verses assume that you have accepted Christ.  That is vital.  Let us start and stay there for a few lines. One of my favorite songs is “Oceans” by Hillsong United.   Our band at church plays it.   I hear it on the radio often.   Even my family will be caught singing it throughout the week.   It is a catchy tune, but the song does several things for me. One of the first things the song does is leads me to worship.   The words and melody turn attention to God and his goodness. Psalm 66:4   NLT Everything on earth will worship you; they will sing your praises, shouting your name in glorious song s. Another thing that this song does turns my attention from things that distract me from hearing God.   Almost like there is some magical happening it changes my focus, but it really takes my spirit and turns me toward God.
