sense of smell

This week we have looked at the impact of our 5 senses.  God gave us each to help us enjoy life and to see Him.  The 5 senses are sight, sound, smell, taste and touch.  Today we will finish up with the sense of smell. Let me cut to the chase… what are your favorite smells?  Oh this question ought to conjure up lots of different ideas, opinions and even memories.  Let’s go there. For me: fresh baked bread (like my aunt Shelly used to make), homemade chocolate cake (that our friend Libby and later my mom would make), fresh baked chocolate cookies or brownies, krispy kreme donuts, homemade tortillas on a clay stone in Honduras, honey suckle in spring, fresh roses, room freshly cleaned, clothes off the clothes line, the air after rain, the ocean and salt water spray, mom’s favorite perfume…  As you can tell I like food.  But there are so many more. How about what are your favorite smells? Now, what are God’s favorite smells?  That is a tough on...

Cuba and my heart

I will spend a few days this week and next talking about my trip to Cuba, and specifically today I want to talk about a few things that are heavy on my heart. 1 Thessalonians 3:2  NASB   and we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s fellow worker in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you for the benefit of your faith, It is a joy to serve with friends in Cuba and with the Madem / FCA sports ministry.  God continues to touch hearts and to draw people in to a close relationship with Him.  I have met some incredible people whose testimonies are strong and growing.   On this past trip I met two couples who came to faith while playing baseball, accepted Jesus as their Savior and are faithful to the church.  One of those who on the street and addicted to illegal drugs.  Now he is married, living by faith and changed because of his relationship with Jesus. I met another young lady, a girl almost 13 years old, that was taken in by a local church af...

meeting needs

Isaiah 58:7   NLT Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless .   Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help. There are times when needs seem to be greater.   It is at times like that we can make a big difference in the lives of the people we are around.   Some people have a hard time seeing needs while others are over run with them. As it is winter and our area is about to be hit with extreme cold weather the needs of those who do not have heat or don't have a place to stay come to our mind.   There are things we can do to help others.   Are you willing to meet the needs that you see? One way to meet those needs is to prepare yourself to meet needs.   That might consist of putting a few blankets or some food in your trunk so that when you see someone who is homeless or hungry that you can meet the need you see. Another way to meet a need is to volunteer with a loca...
