Protection? :: Wednesday E-Devotion

Bouncer.  Bodyguard.

I have always wanted to be one of those guys.  You know, I am built for it.  Muscles.  Height.  Attitude.  Well, at least I can dream, yet the thought of being a protector and offering protection is a big deal.

This is not the type of thing to keep you from getting a disease or from getting caught from bad stuff you do.  This is bigger protection than any one can offer around us.  No body guard is big enough or tough enough to keep our toughest enemy away.  Think about it and then do something about it.

"Be careful!  Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour."   1 Peter 5:8 (NLT)

I recently posted an e-devotion declaring that much of the time we are our own enemy, yet we both know that Satan has a plan to get us, like the lion mentioned in the above verse.  He wants to keep us from being significant.  He wants to keep us from feeling worthy.  Plain and simple, he is planning to keep us lonely and cold.

That is not Jesus' plan.  He has designed us for significance, given us ability of being worthy and best yet planned to put us in the family, His community of faith on earth and in heaven.  Where is the protection?  Listen up.

"But the Lord is faithful; he will make you strong and guard you from the evil one."  2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NLT)

Here is the truth...when God sends us His holy protector, the Holy Spirit, this is what He will do:

"...teach you everything and will remind you of everything I (Jesus) myself have told you."   John 14:26 (NLT)

"...receive power..."  Acts 1:8 (NLT)

"He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth..."   John 14:17 (NLT)

"And the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress..."  Romans 8:26 (NLT)

And on the list could go.  But I will stop there.  That is real protection that we all need!

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
