still BUZZED from the Buzz Conference

I am still on a high from the awesome experience and learning at the Buzz Conference ’06 in Washington, DC. What was Buzz about? Thanks for asking. This was a group of young church leaders and church planters from across the US and as far away as Australia led by Mark Batterson, lead Pastor of National Community Church (NCC) in DC. 300 plus people all with a heart to do Kingdom work for Jesus. The theme was “compel them to come in” as commissioned by Jesus.

Please know that I was blown away but the people I met and the stuff I learned. So what I am going to do in the coming lines is give you some bits of buzz, stuff I learned from the conference. Yet I have to first say THANK YOU and GREAT JOB to all the staff at NCC who did an incredible job…

>>>Worst fate is to be ignored. We are called to be unignorable.

>>>Faithfulness is not maintaining the status quo … it is competing for the kingdom. God is going to use someone who doesn’t want to loose.

>>> Excellence honors God … we cannot do things half way. It hurts more than it helps.

>>>“If you give God the right to yourself, He will make a holy experiment out of you.” --- Oswald Chambers

>>>People who find something wrong with something that is right…that is a Pharisee.

>>>LEAVE A MARK ON PEOPLE (ie. Jesus did by preaching on a boat, walking on water, running people out of the temple and more.)

>>>Christ followers ought to be the most passionate people on the planet. Get excited and follow the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

>>>Don’t chase those who leave. Swim with the swimmers and leave the bottom feeders alone. Take the higher ground.

>>> Right brain is where the future of leadership is at. Understanding function of the brain (left is logical and right is creative).

>>> Church is a tag team stop. When people come to church they tag us. When they leave we tag them. Give them the tools to reach out to people, to invite them to come. Word of mouth and word of mouse are important.

>>> The audience is always right. If they don’t get the point, it is our fault for not communicating.

>>> God is in the details. Record them and reward for the details. Get a new perspective. Get out of your ordinary. Look at it differently.

>>> The biggest mistake in ministry is meeting expectations. You have got to exceed expectations. Meeting expectations is quenching thirst while exceeding expectation is adding taste, to appeal to taste.

>>>Enjoying the people you are working with makes ministry that much more enjoyable.

Well, that was just a little insight in my notes from the conference. Hope it created some extra stuff in your mind. Be blessed!

Michael (James 1:5)

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
