God has a plan :: Thursday E-Devotion

WOW. This is hot. In other words, this encouraged me in a big way.

I am going to share with you some words from gifted author and teacher Beth Moore from a devotion posted at the Life Outreach website. Our small group Bible study is going through her book "The Beloved Disciple" and continue to be blessed as we learn.

I will give you some of my thoughts are what is copied below:

"How differently would we live life if we believe that God is thinking about us? Can you imagine Him sitting there all night watching and waiting for us to wake up? He's thinking, "Don't hit that snooze button again. I am ready to talk." What kind of God is that, who thinks of us that significantly?

"However, He is not the only one with an intentional plan for your life. God's purpose is to show His glory through your life, to give you hope and a future. He plans to prosper you in the things that really matter; things like satisfaction, fulfillment, fruit bearing, peace of mind, and joy. Satan's plan is to steal, kill and destroy in order to prevent God from getting glory. Ephesians 6:10-12 tells us to put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to take our stand against the devil's schemes.

"God's design is highly personalized and perfectly timed. Acts 13:36 says, "For when David had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep, he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed." David had one shot at it; one time around the garden. He served God's purpose in his own generation.

"God has a purpose for you in your generation and it is absolutely critical that you walk in the progressive revelation of His purpose. When everything else is said and done, we want the bottom line of our lives to be, "Did we serve God's purpose in our own generation?" Your name can be put into that verse. "When (your name) had served God's purpose in her own generation, (he/she) fell asleep."

(Taken from a devotion titled "A Slice of Time" by Beth Moore and adapted from Beth's teachings on LIFE Today at www.LifeToday.org/Beth)

My note: doesn't it give you chill bumps to know that God is thinking about you? Got a phone call the other night, and on the other end of the phone was a friend that said "God told me to call you." Those are sweet times when God reminds us, His kids, what we are with Him and He is with us. Remember you are special to God!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
