"Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God." Psalms 20:7 (NIV)
Last week I spent a good deal of time looking at the life of David and Jonathan as I shared a message with our church about their friendship. I am always challenged by David's life and his choices, yet this time I was reminded of one specific event in David's life.
In 1 Samuel 24 you can read the story of a time when Saul was pursuing David to kill him. David had an opportunity to do kill Saul when he was in a cave and Saul happened to make his way into the same cave to relieve himself. David's men said to kill Saul, but David couldn't do that or wouldn't. In fact we learn that David was bothered because he cut of piece of Saul's clothes to show he could have killed him.
Why did David leave Saul alone? I believe it is because David knew that God was at work. He was the one that anointed Saul king and then anointed and called David. God would work out the details and would also protect David all along the way.
David allowed God to work, and we must do the same. Far too often we have the opinion that we must take things into our own hands and make things happen on our own when in fact God is already in the thick of things doing what needs to be done.
God may call on you to do a particular task or see that something is accomplished, yet we must be careful to let God work. He can do stuff much easier and much better than we can. Trust God. He is at work. Let God work, and the results will be better that you could have worked for.
"We depend on the LORD alone to save us. Only he can help us, protecting us like a shield." Psalms 33:20 (NLT)
