Exalt God. Spend time with Jesus. :: Friday E-Devotion

"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations..." Psalms 46:10 (NIV)

I have used that verse and the context of it maybe a million times since I became a Christian.
The first I remember thinking about it was as a teenager on a retreat near a beautiful lake in Arkansas. Just being still was awesome.

Then as a young adult moving into new areas of life, I heard God call me surrounding that same truth. Often over a period of 9 months I would leave town and go to a friend's farm and sit listening to the Lord and enjoying time with Him. I kind of felt like David out in the pasture alone with the sheep.

Then this morning I came back to that verse after spending time the last few weeks seeking Jesus and being quiet in His presence, the last part of the verse and the next verse hit me hard. Read on!

"...I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress." Psalms 46:10-11 (NIV)

No matter what...God will be exalted. He created us to glorify Him. It is that simple. It is not about us. Everything is about Him. Never will He leave His kids alone or allow us to be out of His care.

I don't know about you, but those words bring awesome comfort to this child of God.

Spend some time with Jesus. Hear His heart beat for you and His voice speak to you. There is nothing like walking in the direction that God leads after you have left it all in His lap. That beings peace.

Time with Jesus ... there is no substitute.

"Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly." Psalms 5:3 (NLT)

"Wait patiently for the LORD. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the LORD." Psalms 27:14 (NLT)

"Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently for him to act. Don't worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes." Psalms 37:7 (NLT)

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
