think. THINK. I need God // Monday E-Devotion

So much to do. So little time. So many great things happenings and so many people to do them, see them and just to be with. You have to know that I am excited about all God is doing in His world. That includes the piece I live in. You have been praying, I am sure, for the changes that have taken place with our family and ministry. In the last few days, God has continued to give answers to prayer, insight to our needs and words to share with others.

This week a small group from our church are going to be training the art and skills of church planting. Please pray for the six of us (also, know that this is your only e-devotion for the week because of that) who are excited about the future and want to do our best to see a congregation be all God would have it to be.

I need God. I don’t need my own personal opinion or the opinion of the best theologian or preacher or missionary. I need God. That is why each day I am asking the Lord to fill my mind and heart with Him. Think about that. Man’s thinking, my thinking is flawed big time. God’s thinking is perfect.

“A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.” John 10:10 (MSG)

“God can do anything, you know— far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.” Eph 3:20 (MSG)

I need God. This morning I was reading a note from a pastor friend and went back to his church’s core values. You see one of the things looming in my mind is the creation and dreaming of the core values of this new church I am a part of. These values must be 100% Biblical and 100% committed to by our leadership. They are not to be something we learned from another church or got out of a book. These core values must come from our time with God, His leading in the process and our conviction about the path of this new work.

I am copying that pastor’s core values for your consideration to make think. I mean really THINK, and I am saying and convinced that “I need God.” Read on and may God give us His vision for His values for us!

12 core values are part of the DNA of National Community Church (both descriptive and prescriptive of who we are): Expect the unexpected, Irrelevance is irreverence, Love people when they least expect it and least deserve it, Playing it safe is risky, Pray like it depends on God and work like it depends on you, Everyone is invaluable and irreplaceable, Everything is an experiment, You cannot out give God, Maturity does not equal conformity, Go the extra mile, It's never too late to be who you might have been, and Do it right and do it big!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
