What to do with the bricks // Tuesday E-Devotion

“Don't let anyone shake you up or get you excited over some breathless report or rumored letter from me that the day of the Master's arrival has come and gone. Don't fall for any line like that…” 2 Thessalonians 2:2-3 (MSG)

Paul penned those words to a church that he founded and that had his heart and attention. He was always seeking to encourage and to fill them with awesome truth that would send them forward and not backward.

Ever have something happen or a conversation that made you stop and step back or away from a situation God led you into? That happens and it happens often, if we let it. The Bible is clear that Satan seeks to distract and deceive Christians from looking at, being with and from following God. We are told that Satan blinds people with his ways, he distracts people with what is negative and greatly keeps people from being blessed by getting them, or us, to worry.

So, what do we do with the negative stuff that comes our way? How do we deal with the conversations, letters and other stuff that is meant to keep us from doing what God wants? We have to make a choice before those things come around us.

“As far as I am concerned, God turned into good what you meant for evil...” Genesis 50:20 (NLT)

Turn that frown upside down. When you’re given lemons, make lemonade. Don’t believe the lies. Live in the truth that God has given us…

God says to us, “For I am about to do a brand-new thing. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness for my people to come home. I will create rivers for them in the desert!” Isaiah 43:19 (NLT)

As I close, here is a quote from TV news man David Brinkley: “A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.”

What do we do with the bricks that are thrown at us? Remember that attitude is a choice that determines our actions and that we lead others to act through the positive attitude we share, or the negative. It is easier to keep a positive attitude than it is to try to get it back. So, what do we need to do? Feed on the positive stuff and stick to it everyday. Jesus did…

“Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had.” Philippians 2:5 (NLT)

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
