Gifts and God's Will // Friday E-Devotion

“Meanwhile, live in such a way that you are a credit to the Message of Christ…” Philippians 1:27 (MSG)

My thoughts are in a million directions today, and I am so excited about all the Lord is doing. Hang with me as I give you a couple thoughts from deep in my heart today. God is so good, great and gracious.

It has been a week filled with not feeling well, lots to do and planning for Christmas. I am pretty worn out at the end of the day, but last night I got an e-mail from one of my prayer warriors back home. He always lifts me as I know he is praying. Yesterday after reading the e-devotion his daughter wrote something that is awesome, and I have to share it with you about God’s will. Read on!

The Shortest Destination

The shortest trip I ever took was to God’s Will
I didn’t have to go anywhere to get there

I didn’t have to pay for that dream vacation
All is cost me, a decision

In His will for me
There’s no dreamin about somewhere else

It’s not around the corner
On the other side of the planet

Just the other side of a thought
And I am in it

The shortest trip between heaven and hell
happiness and sorrow
Today and tomorrow

Is God’s Will…

(Written by Kristy Thompson * December 7, 2006)

I am blown away by what God gave her. Praise the Lord for how He works in the lives of the people we get to connect with. How awesome it is to find out that you not only are living but writing and sharing from the middle of God’s will.

You know that commercial from a credit card company that use the tag line “priceless”? In my devotion time today I read about that fact. But we are so consumed by how we will give this Christmas, what we will gift and how to best use what we have. When all the while, the best things we can give are really priceless and so very important. Think about the things you will give and make sure that you are giving some other things … like … yourself, God through you and more.

I close by quoting from today’s Proverb. Often these verses give me thought and depth and overflowing desire. Today was no different. Wisdom is personified. I was blessed by these verses, and I pray you will be too:

“The LORD formed me from the beginning, before he created anything else…before the mountains…before he had made the earth…I was there when he established the heavens, when he drew the horizon on the oceans. I was there when he set the clouds above, when he established the deep fountains of the earth. I was there when he set the limits of the seas, so they would not spread beyond their boundaries. And when he marked off the earth's foundations, I was the architect at his side. I was his constant delight, rejoicing always in his presence. And how happy I was with what he created—his wide world and all the human family!...Listen to my counsel and be wise. Don't ignore it. Happy are those who listen to me, watching for me daily at my gates, waiting for me outside my home! For whoever finds me finds life and wins approval from the LORD.” Proverbs 8:22-35 (NLT)

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
