Proverbs 18:4,10,15 (nlt) --- Wise words are like deep waters; wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook...The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe...Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge.
At Christmas my family had the honor of visiting one of my mentors and one of the godliest men I know, Dr. Michael Guido who is The Sower from Metter, Georgia. This man has prayed for me and counseled man more times than I can count, and what what I remember most of Him was our first visit.
As a 21 year old preacher boy, I sat in Dr. Guido's garden office and began to ask questions and to listen. This man served with HA Ironside at Moody Church in Chicago. He has seen thousands upon thousands of people saved through his media ministry. Hundreds of huge prayer requests have been answered that came across his desk. No, Dr. Guido is not an angel, but he is a faithful and humble servant of the Lord.
Just outside his office there is a garden that leads to a chapel where I have spent much time praying. The back drop of the chapel is a fountain that will take your breathe away. Only two places I have been (man created places) have been places have led to me hearing in huge ways from the Lord.
The fountain symbolizes the flowing truth and wisdom of God. Look at the verses I listed above. Wisdom comes from God (see James 1:5), and it is so important that we run to God and hear from God. He is a fountain for us. It never dries up and it's water are never bitter. They are always sweet and from the Lord. They are truth that gives us strength and protection, hope and confidence.
Finally, one of the mark of a godly person is where their wisdom comes from. It is a commitment, one I make often, to seek the Lord first and foremost. Every Christian must do the same. Jesus is our wisdom and the fountain we so desperately need.
Hebrews 12:1-2 (nlt) --- Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame.
