got wisdom? // Wednesday E-Devotion

James 1:5 (nasb) --- But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

For over 15 years I been using this verse when I sign my name or share a thought. It has become 2nd nature and a habit. Yet it doesn't come lightly or as some casual reference.

God intends to put His wisdom to work in and through our lives. To allow God's work and His wisdom in our minds and hearts will teach us the things of God and direct our thoughts and actions to be more God like. It will make our witnessing more powerful, our life example shine and will give us the words to say when we need to say them or the push to be quiet when we need to be silent.

This pastor is excited. Any time a church leader or pastor sees His people walking with Jesus, there is joy running over, a dance to dance, praise to give God, people to hug and to celebrate. I have seen this, and I am on top of the world!

3 John 1:4 (nlt) --- I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth.

Since The Community Fellowship came into being I have said and shared many times that this church is not for everyone, and that each person must seek the Lord to know if this is God's choice for you or your family. Friends, I am watching people follow through with that. Sometimes I don't too much care for the results, and at other times I am s excited. Yet I see and know that these precious people are seeking God for an answer. Guys and girls, there is a deep truth about spiritual growth! Get it.

Finally, I have been asking God for wisdom in my own life for several different issues for our family, our home, the church and more. That means James 1:5 is not only a verse I share, it is a verse and truth I choose to live by. This morning's time with God, and from Proverbs led me to hear some of God's insight. Here is a glimpse into my quiet time with the Lord this morning, and I close with these verses:

Proverbs 24 (nlt)

3 A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense.

4 Through knowledge its rooms are filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables.

5 The wise are mightier than the strong, and those with knowledge grow stronger and stronger.

6 So don't go to war without wise guidance; victory depends on having many advisers.

7 Wisdom is too lofty for fools. Among leaders at the city gate, they have nothing to say...

10 If you fail under pressure, your strength is too small...

13 My child, eat honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to the taste.

14 In the same way, wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, you will have a bright future, and your hopes will not be cut short.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
