willing to not compromise // Tuesday E-Devotion

"We think evangelism is telling people what they need to know instead of getting them where they need to go." --- Erwin McManus (Mosaic Church)

Are we more worried about people feeling welcome or people going to hell? Are we more concerned with our own trouble or pain than we are with those who desperately need Jesus?

Yes, I know those are preacher kind of questions in need of Sunday School kind of answers, yet it is so very important that Christians, those who want to follow God and love Him in big ways, do what pleases God. Choices are every where. The old and roten path and comfortable way has changed very little. But it does provide comfort and little to no stir in our lives.

Listen, people who want to seek adventure do big things. They climb unclimbable mountains. They build unflyable planes or do any number of things we can name. They don't just do those things for the fun of it. It is always a calling and a huge price that comes with the calling.

Following Jesus is just like that. I am tired of seeing churches do the same old thing and get the same old results. It sickens me to let people, including myself, get by with doing nothing just so life goes on as usual. Lets take some Jesus' leadership lessons.

What is faith? Hebrews 11:1 says it is thinking the unthinkable, seeing the unseeable and doing the undoable. Steps of faith may mean you go without a pay check or you move to a place you don't even have a home or a bed.

Philippians 3:20 (nlt) --- For he risked his life for the work of Christ, and he was at the point of death while doing for me what you couldn’t do from far away.

John 3:30 (nlt) --- He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.

I have seen many churches that use this phrase: 'whatever it takes'. Are we really willing to do whatever it takes to follow Jesus?

It may be uncomfortable. We may loose something along the way. It may cost me my life. People may think bad thoughts of me.

Following Jesus means He is more important than anything or anyone else. What do you say, are we willing?

Finally, God has given me a vision for the new church I am leading and for my life in ministry. Friends, I am passionate about that vision. Along our path we have to find out what we are passionate about. I am willing not to compromise when it comes to the vision God has given me, and I am willing to take risks, step out in faith or do whatever it takes to see that this God-given vision is lifted high for others to catch and be inspired by. Why? Like McManus said, it is all about the destination and taking people with us!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
