this is your brain // Monday E-Devotion

I like the old commercial..."this is your brain...this is your brain on drugs."  It relates to my thoughts for the day.  When we let our brains be filled with junk it kind of looks like that brain on drugs.  Get the picture?

2 Corinthians 10:5  (nasb) --- We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

Ever struggle with your thoughts and your mind?  Often I think that I am loosing my mind, but that is not what I am talking about.  There are thoughts that come in and some even stay.  They lead us to doubt, hurt, hurt others and even toward sin.  So what do we do with those dangerous thoughts?

Fact is, God has given us His Word, the Bible, as a tool to battle these thought patterns that are deadly.  The verse above implores the Christian, you and me, to let God capture the thoughts that don't come from Him and that don't glorify Him.  It is not easy, but this is His way.  Our minds ought to be a place of peace and guiding us into MORE peace.  It shouldn't guide us to destructive thinking and acting.

Think about it!

Philippians 4:8 (nlt) ---  And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

1 Peter 1:3 (esv) --- Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

My plan is to spend a great deal of my study time this week looking at thought patterns as it relates to family and relationships.  Remember one important fact: Satan's goal is to DESTROY your life and your family.  Are we going to let Him?  The place he most often starts is in our minds.

Listen up, you and I have to give him the right to do that.  But God has given us the stuff we need to think right and to have awesome, purpose filled life.  Let God take your brain and work it into His best!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
