Luke 19:10 (New Living Translation) --- For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.
How far are we willing to go? What are we willing to give? Answer those questions as it relates to seeing people come to know God. Our answers are important, and our answers ought to shine for Jesus.
One of my favorite thoughts about church and how we fit together resembles a team. Our favorite football coach (who attends the church) helped teach our last new members class along with others from the leadership team. In his time, the coach related how the church is much like that football team working together. I like that. It also makes everybody accountable to our purpose and our goal. Which is ... all about God and reaching our community for Jesus.
Here is the way Mark Batterson, pastor of National Community Church in Wasington, DC, put it:
Church is a Tag-Team Sport We kick off our Easter series this weekend. It's what I'd call a back to basics series. Really want to encourage NCCers to invite a friend. This is one of those seasons where people who are unchurched or dechurched are more open to an invitation.
Church is a tag-team sport .
When you walk in, you tag me and say "go for it." And with the help of our creative team, I try to preach what God has put in my heart with as much creativity and authenticity as I can.
When you walk out, I tag you and say "go for it." And every NCCer is responsible for sharing their faith with everyone in their unique circle of influence . By the way, I read somewhere that the average person has 68 people in their circle of influence--family, friends, colleagues, roomates, etc. Not sure who came up with that number or how! But when I think about our potential impact as a church I don't think in terms of the people who actually attend. I think of our collective circles of influence!
Average Attendance x Circle of Influence = Potential Impact
We can turn this city upside down!
Batterson is the dude. Well, Jesus is the real dude, but here is a guy leading on the edge. Lets learn and do just what the apostle Andrew was known for ... bringing people to Jesus.
Acts 4:12 (NLT) --- There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.
