word for the day
CROSS

verse(s) for the day
Romans 5:8 (nlt) --- But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

1 Peter 3:18 (nlt) --- Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.

thought for the day
Death is not easy to talk about especially one that is bloody and filled with difficult things. Yet Jesus' death must hit us a little different from those of murders and car accidents. Yes, His death was full of pain and terror as well as bloody scenes hard to look at.

Fact is and even the Bible tells us, that people won't die for one another. We cherish the stories of people who died for a cause, and we call them martyrs. Through history many people have died for a cause. Some seemed like huge causes and some seemed somewhat insignificant. But the Easter scene, not spring flowers and bunnies but of Jesus, is one that will change us forever.

It needs to be looked at. His death was gross and brutal, but life was always lived for others. He lived for others, and He died for others. This perfect man, Jesus, died for imperfect people, you and me. He even died for murders and rapist and for anyone you can think of.

Why is that true? Why is this day, called Good Friday, so important?

Without the death of Jesus, we don't have life, eternal life. Think about it. Without Jesus, we have no purpose and no meaning. Yes, there is still stuff to do and life to live, but it is useless and endless nothing. Yet Jesus gave us the somethings. It often takes pain to get somewhere. It every time takes reality to get people, you and me, to understand that Jesus' death on the Cross means life and meaning and endless opportunities.

Easter means life. The Cross was not the end. It wasn't His last act. Yes, His last breathe, His last tear and shed blood, but He lived again. The grave Jesus was put it was empty three days after He died. Now, that is awesome.

The Cross is the door to life. Even when we are pitiful and in trouble and need lots of help, Jesus shows up. He gave everything so that we can have life.

Thank God for the Cross. He loved us with the cross.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
